This post is one week overdue, but the announcement needs to be made in any case. My great friend, Amanda, delivered her healthy, beautiful daughter Grace, at 6pm Sunday 10th of February. She weighed 6lbs 1/2 oz, and measured 50cm in length! She is tiny and just perfect!
There have, of course, been a lot of snuggly cuddles with Grace and on Saturday morning we had a quick, mini photo session with Grace to make sure we captured all of her newness. She was so well behaved, even though we got her out of her warm clothes for it! We also got a handful of family photos too, and I'll post a peak at them as soon as I have them ready for the web.
Its so amazing and overwhelming to have Grace here after what seems like forever! She is already bringing so much joy to her family's lives, and I can't wait to watch her grow and change as the years go by ... with camera in hand, of course!

Happy New Year!
Wishing you all a joyous and successful 2008!
Thank goodness the "silly" season is over - don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and all that it brings, but its all just so rushed! Even so, we still managed a relatively quiet one, with lots of time spent with family and good friends.
Photography news for 2008 ...... I have officially finished portfolio building, so new prices now apply; please contact me for these details at renee@reneecaldwell.com.au I have some exciting plans & projects ready to announce throughout the year, so pop back to see if you're able to take advantage of them. Especially to my past clients ..... keep your eyes and ears peeled for competitions to be launched that are all about you :)
That's enough for now, but I am really excited and motivated for life and photography in 2008, and I'm looking forward to making some pretty fabulous things happen!

Welcome to the World!
Just a quick note to welcome to the world two brand new little boys!
Naree & Lee welcomed their son yesterday morning, Jordyn Lee - I cannot wait to meet their little man, and especially to work with them all on his newborn photos.
And, Irene & Ala also welcomed a son on Tuesday - who is as yet, unnamed. I'm looking forward to meeting their little guy too :)
Both new families are happy and healthy, and I can't imagine the amazement they must be feeling at this very moment.
Boys everywhere! Must be something in the water ;-)

Recent Work
This weekend just gone, I assisted a photographer photographing a wedding! Was a great learning experience, in a lot of ways - I had to shoot digital!! But he 'taught' as we worked and I really learnt a lot. I've also got some amazing equipment to try out now too - cannot wait to get my hands on that!! :)
The weekend before last, I had the pleasure of working with 12 month old Charlotte! She is such a gorgeous little girl and very busy! I soon learnt that when it comes to toddlers - I have absolutely no control over the shoot :) I managed to get some great shots though - I'm looking forward to sharing them with Charlotte's parents very soon!
I'm off to visit with my grandparents for the rest of the week, so hopefully I'll come home with some nice portraits of the family - including my dad who is coming to visit, and who lives much too far away! ;-)

A Busy Weekend
Saturday morning was really lovely, I was able to photograph the very beautiful and much loved 5 week old Brooklyn Rose. For two tired parents, I think we had a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to their images reflecting that. We also managed to do a couple of portraits of mum and dad, which were really lovely, and got me welling up .... I'm such a sap!!
Sunday morning I met with Irene and Ala. Ala was a little camera shy, so we started the morning with 32 weeks pregnant Irene, and ended with a couple with Ala in the mix. We even got his prized car to star in a few images which was something different and fun to try!
I am really looking forward to seeing the images from this weekend, especially those of Miss Brooklyn ..... my first newborn ..... what a pleasure she was to shoot :)

Bumps!
This weekend I met with Kathy and Ryan - friends of a friend, and they received their maternity shoot as a gift - a great one in my opinion ;-) So, in Queensland we've been in the midst of a drought, much like the rest of Australia. Well, for the past week it has just BUCKETED down, which is great, we need it and its falling in all the right places ..... BUT ..... not so great when you're in the middle of a shoot! Thankfully, we managed to get in a few shots in the park before the clouds rolled in, but once we got back to their home, the skies had darkened! So we worked with what we had, and hopefully, we will have been successful! Kathy was at 35 weeks for the shoot, and we had a great time - lots of laughs. Again, an easy job for me when people are so fun and so agreeable. Loving these maternity shoots!
On Sunday, we had Amanda's 4 month shoot for her pregnancy, and this time we added a little more 'sass' to the shoot, so hopefully we'll get a better result. Her cheeky hubby Michael even got in on the act for a couple of shots. Am really looking forward to seeing all my work from this weekend.

6 and 3
Sorry - still no photos here to share - fingers crossed there will be for you by next week. In the mean time, I'll just talk about them ;-)
This weekend I had two shoots, firstly, beautiful 6 month old Tim - quite possibly the happiest baby I have ever met - and I met him while he was teething! SUCH a little sweetie. We had fun shooting around their beautiful home, and then headed off to the park to play a little more. I'm looking forward to seeing these shots.
My second shoot for the weekend was with my best friend who is now 3 months pregnant (yay!). We have decided that we'll do a 'progressive' shoot of her pregnancy - same pose, same clothes, same location each month. This was our first shoot to try out what worked best so it will be a no-brainer for the next shoots. We had a bit of girly fun together, which hopefully perked up a little pale and ill Manda :( I think I got a couple of really great portraits in of her too :)
I'll work on some images over the weekend to post next week.

And The Ball is Rolling!
Over the next month, I have a shoot every weekend and am so looking forward to them all - and all edged with a little bit of anxiousness! That's okay though - keeps me honest ;-) This weekend though, I had two shoots - and loved them both! I'm waiting for the films to be processed now though, so I need to expel some of this nervous enegry that's building!
First shoot was with friends of ours and parents of adorable 2 1/2 year old twins Mia & Emerson. We had a lot of fun playing in the park, climbing trees, playing on the swings, then back at home playing in the back yard and painting! A very full morning indeed. But these little cuties quickly won over our hearts with their kind hearted nature and overflow of love for each other - something very special indeed.
The second shoot was with Tealia & Luke - friends of a good friend - this was their maternity shoot - and we all had the best time. I'm pretty anxious about the outcome of this one as my friend has given this shoot to them as a gift (pressure!!). Really lovely people, and I just loved how into the shoot Luke was and how he showered Tealia with compliments as we worked through the morning. Just beautiful! At days off 36 weeks, not long until their little one comes along. I floated home from this shoot on cloud nine ..... cannot wait until this is permanent for me!
Will post photos from both shoots next week. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Photography ....
This is a tough one. My intention with this post was to write about why photography will always have a little piece of my heart, all the reasons why I have finally bitten the bullet and decided to make this my career. (Because there have been a few false starts.) I just can't seem to find the words right now, which is unlike me :) Let's see how I go .....
I'm a creative person, and have always had an affection for photography and for everything an image holds. I guess I initally wanted to create beautiful images for myself, then I found myself falling in love with photography more and more, and finally surrendering to it. I decided to take a risk for joy. I decided to make this love a business.
As for my decision to shoot maternity, newborn and family portraits? I think I was born "clucky" .... I love babies and children, I love pregnant women with their bold, proud shape and I love what family represents. This, of course, naturally leads to relationships in general ..... lovers, friendships, extended family. I just love capturing all those "little" pieces of our days that ultimately make up our lives. And I really enjoy being responsible for providing these sorts of images for my clients, documenting their lives. Their loves.

Why "Coffee Toffee Biscotti"?
It's a colour ... and I love it, so why not?! My best friend and I stumbled across it when I was choosing a colour for my room when we first moved in together .... "a coffee colour, or a toffee colour" was what I wanted, and in the end the paint was called "Biscotti", so it just became "Coffee, Toffee, Biscotti" - and it has stuck!
I've started this blog to communicate, for fun and to grow my business most of all. I'm a photographer, a black & white portrait photographer, and I love shooting with film - I can't wait to begin showcasing my work here for you to see. My passion within photography lies with my passion in life .... relationships. So while my primary focus in my business is maternity, newborn, children and family portraiture, I love images of a group of friends, extended families, snuggly head-over-heels in love couples .... anyone with their everyone.
I cannot wait until this is my everyday life ....
